Clues
(administrative stuff)
This isn't a FAQ sheet. I prefer the term 'Clues,' because regardless of
the FAQs, some people STILL just don't get it. So, if the rest of this
site didn't make things abundantly clear, then here... in plain simple
language... is what I want you to know before you place a character in the
Pan-Demonica.
The Pan-Demonica is a public area, meaning Dragons-Inn characters can
interact with each other and writers introduce new characters using the
club as a setting. In this way, it is similar to the Red Dragon's Inn
run by Hugh, except that the Pandemonica caters to criminals that would
not usually be welcome somewhere else. Because there as so many threads
and characters interacting, there are certain rules that must be obeyed...
1) Obey the commandments.
Your character should obey the Pan-Demonica's
"10-Commandments" as
outlined below:
- No Fighting - Take it outside.
- No Telepathy
- Club closes at Dawn. No Exceptions
- Stay Away from the Golems
- No Spitting
- Curiosity Kills - Mind Your Own Business.
- Living Only - Undead, Stay Away!
- Don’t Stare At the IMP!
- You Steal...You Die.
- Mages Welcome, But Keep Your Spells to Yourself.
Yes, there are some exceptions, but chances are those exceptions don't apply to you or your character. Most of the commandments exist because of the nature of the club's patrons... criminals. For example, in a room full of criminals, telepathy would be a definite no-no. So would overtly trying to listen in on someone else's conversation. If your character just happens to 'overhear' something, that's fine. But straining one's ears in an effort to listen would get you killed. Criminals don't like nosy people. Note that the 'curiosity' rule does not apply to 'asking questions.' That would be too restrictive. Ask whatever you want...just don't go around sticking your ears where they don't belong.
Some rules are silly ("No Spitting") but they are rules nonetheless. Please obey them. The rule against the undead does not apply to vampires. Yes, technically they are undead, but the rule is meant to prohibit zombies specifically. Other types of undead can enter.
Mages can cast whatever spells they want... as long as they don't effect any of the other patrons. Turn someone into a toad and you're outta here...
Occasionally you might feel the need to violate one of the commandments. Go right ahead... but please
include the consequences. Usually this means a sudden, one-way trip to the Montfort sewers. You can be more creative if you wish, but don't just say that your character broke the rules and NOTHING happened.
And don't try to say that the Club's security can't touch your character. For the purposes of enforcing the rules within the Club, the Imp is OMNIPOTENT, Leonardo is IMMORTAL, and the golems are INDESTRUCTIBLE. Consider them all to be ABOVE GOD-LEVEL characters. Anyone not understanding the meaning of 'omnipotent', 'immortal', or 'indestructible' shouldn't be writing characters for the dragon's-inn newsgroup anyway.
2) Criminals only!
The Club Pan-Demonica is for criminals and affiliated scum. No lost children or funny talking animals. Such people would simply not even know that the Pan-Demonica existed. And if they did, they CERTAINLY wouldn't be allowed inside. The club is for characters whose 'alignment' ranges from 'neutral' to 'pure evil.' such as:
Thieves, pickpockets, highwaymen, assassins, spies, crimelords, serial killers, evil demi-gods, kidnappers, and just plain-old mean people. Don't try to have your good character 'sneak' in or say that a good character is 'undercover.' There IS NO 'sneaking in,' and the 'no telepathy' rule does not apply to the Club's employees... Leonardo and the Imp would make short work of whatever 'undercover' agents you have.
3) No disturbing other threads.
This rule is for the dragons-inn newsgroup as a whole. Please excuse me... but I'll have to yell so that everyone can hear: DO NOT INTERFERE WITH ANOTHER AUTHOR'S CHARACTER OR THREAD WITHOUT FIRST ASKING PERMISSION. I'm not going to explain it any further... if you need help with this, then read the Dragons-Inn FAQ.
4.) Other minor points
Here are a few other things to keep in mind.
- The head Bartender is a zombie. He has no name and does not talk... but there are OTHER bartenders that do. If your thread requires a talking bartender, then feel free to make one up and give him/her a name. Don't describe the zombie bartender and then have him start talking and answering questions. Please.
- Demon Brew WILL kill you, or at least make you VERY sick. So far, only ONE character in Montfort has survived the Demon Brew unharmed, and that character belongs to me. For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about... here's a summary of Demon Brew: It is a drink. Its effects are inversely proportional to the amount of evil a character has committed. A neutral character will die. A slightly evil character will die. A really evil character might get a stomach-ache and have to spend a few days with a healer. Only the Devil Himself, or someone very close to it, will be completely unharmed. Get the picture? Remember... only REALLY BAD people can drink the Brew and not die, and even THEY will probably get sick. If this is confusing then just leave it alone and have a glass of milk. Oh... only the undead Bartender can make Demon Brew, and it is completely free.
- Remember that the Pan-Demonica closes at dawn and opens a little after sunset. Don't have your character walking in during the morning or afternoon... the club simply doesn't exist during the daylight hours. If your character stays past dawn, please have them teleported somewhere else.
Other 'clues' will be added as the Club, and this website, develops. Please check back occasionally to see if there is anything new.
