Issue 42
New Episode:
http://www.darkicon.com/Library/DIEM/Crusade/vol1no42.htm
I don't have the time (or patience) to update any of the other pages, so this post is it for now.
Also, the website has been incredibly slow for me today, so in case you are having the same problem you might want to try the text-only version of the
update at:
http://www.darkicon.com/Library/DIEM/Crusade/vol1no42.txt
Shhhh... here's a secret: most (but not all) of the other chapters are available as text-only versions, too. Just replace the 'htm' at the end
with 'txt'. Useful for folks with slow connections or funky screen resolutions.
Anyway, I hope U enjoy the new chapter.
I am not a Character.
I am Real.

And I know where you Dream.

oh...
If anyone out there actually *cares* about the text-only versions of the stories, I forgot to mention that the best way to view them is to download
them to your computer and read them in a word processor. Viewing them directly in a web browser can give you fits, depending on your screen
settings.
Whatever.

Monsters
Nice monsters, the four of them.
Very well done, the only monster whose past we don't know in detail is the metalic one.
I loved the discussion on the job of the police.

Heya all, how goes? Long time no see.
Well, caught up on the reading (not much new stuff DI, been busy with other stuff?). Otherwise been some good stuff.
Ed, come on now...dude bleeds on metal, metal attacks him and takes him over. Jason's whole "Deja Smell/Aura" thing with Mr. Metal, a certain
creature falling into a vat of Steel...DI's resent addition to the field notes about vamps...The only thing that doesn't piece is how the creature
is made out of silver...
Anyways...been busy, moving, family stuff, etc, etc...not to mention work noticed the huge ammount of time spent on sites that they didn't have
labled as "work related"...so ya, got cut there.
Anyways, keep rolling out the good stuff, and I'll be catching you all around.

Vamp
I don't know the past of Brite (is this his name? well, ok, that vamp from the first Crusade history) in detail.

Yes, the creature is 'Brite' from the first Crusade story.
He isn't made out of silver; Jason just thinks it is. It DOES, however, contain a large quantity of the other thing that can hurt werebeasts:
magic. Jason just hasn't figured that out yet. Werebeast-Jason isn't quite as smart as normal-Jason.
Between the busy holiday(s) and me being sick, I haven't been working on much of anything. Probably won't even start on the next December piece
for another week or so. Sorry.

**note: just realized I made it sound like I got fired in that post I did...by got cut I mean my internet time to post, read, etc, not my job.
Ahhh, the "in detail" was a detail I missed when I set out to set out the details of the metalic monstrocity. ((say that three times fast)). Sry
Ed.
Well, DI, hope you feel better, and what ever happened to the illistrated Crusade? Hadn't heard anything new on that for awhile and seems the most
recent post on it was almost 6 months old. Scrapped, backburner, or just working on it behind the scenes?

The illustrated Crusade project is scrapped for now. Once I realized the amount of time it would take me to do all the images at the level of
quality that I wanted, the project became an impossibility. I would have to work on it 8hrs a day 5 days a week or more to get it done in a
reasonable time frame... which was anything less than a year. I have thought of other ways that it *could* be done (i.e., someone else doing the
images, rendering the images directly in Poser resulting in lower quality images,) but at this point the project is on permanent hold.
I'm feeling much better. Thanks for askin'.

Gotta admit, I wasn't expecting it to be Brite... I see how the clues lead to that, but I was expecting, I dunno, maybe a creation by the creator of
Pitt. Or something.
Congratulations, DI! THoroughly stumped here.

Wow, now I'm disappointed. The fact that the metal beast was Brite wasn't supposed to be a big surprise or secret. I figured the 'bleed on
steel, steel comes to life' scene was a dead giveaway. Jason's comment about it being made of silver may have thrown some people, but that was
mostly intended to show how smart Jason ISN'T these days. Well hopefully nobody else is confused and no one is expecting some grand, climatic
revelation about the monster's identity.
Heh... for extra triva points, what is the significance of the construction site?
We will be learning a bit more about Brite in this story (like his real name, for one), but not very much. The new 'vampires' entry in the log was
supposed to take care of the 'new information' portion and leave me free to tell the story. We will, however, learn that Donovan really and truely
is a mean bastard. Oh, already knew that? Well never mind then...

Sorry Dark Icon... chalk it up to my having temporarily forgotten about that scene... Been re-reading the December stories and catching up on THEM,
rather than Crusade, I'm afraid. And, having forgotten that scene, I was expecting a whole new monster... But if it makes you feel better, I'm
probably the only doofus who didn't get it, and now that I've been gently guided in the right direction, it makes much more sense and I REALLY wanna
see what happens next...
As for the construction site... is it because it's the store where Jason chased Brite, where he first REALLY loaded up on ammo, and basically first
started to accept his new life, just a little....?
And of course Donovan is. It's like in that John Travolta movie (or at least, the part I saw on the ads) where he's angel, and he's asked why he
isn't clean, and he says 'I'm an angel, not a saint'.
Donovan's a Knight, not a saint... and he's absolutely pragmatic.

The only thing I'm not 100% up on is who was sitting in the trailer with our "good Dr."
But, as "neat tricks" go, I think somebody's checking up on his daughter... anybody want to take bets against me?

sick?
I sure hope that you are better DI. If it something commom like a flu let me know, I know a few herbs, nothing esoteric, just a tea or two. 10
medicines at most, but usefull. And, of course, everybody down here know a thing or two like:
babosa is good for the hair.
mint is good for cold.
My mother does a nice tea of mint, honey, and lemon, if it doesn't cure the cold at least you feel better.
Romã (don't know the name in english) solves some infections of the throat.
And some others.
About the name Brite, you will find it curious: here in Brasil they mix small stones (actually a stone cut in small pieces) with the cement and sand
to make concrete. These small stones are called "brita". So, the name Brite reminds me of the small, hard stones and of course I find the name funny
and difficult to remember when associated with a monster.

Thanks, Eduardo. I don't think it was anything serious. But then, I never get sick (no kidding... in 7 years of marriage this is the first time
my wife saw me sick without it being caused by food or drink) so it actually could have been something bad that my superhuman metabolism fought off
with no problem. That mint and honey-tea sounds like something my mom used to make. Amazing how some of those local remedies aren't really all
that local, eh?

You have my sympathies, DI. I go through the same sort of thing with regards to illness... seems that when I start to feel sick, it's a sign that I
am good and truly _sick_. There's no 'Hmmmm, I'm starting to come down with something'... it's more like 'I don't feel well... and now the
doctor says I have pleurisy.'
So if you haven't quite yet, get well soon.

I sincerely hope you're feeling better, DI.
And I also wanted to say, "hello." I'm in mild shock that I finally got around to registering, and am looking forward to catching up on some
excellent reading.

eduargdo, over here we call 'brita', gravel. So, we can expect that DI is going to want to change the vampires name to 'Gravelite'.
